Y-Comm Glitch, VS glitch, Den Invite glitch¶
In Pokemon Sword/Shield, the Y-Comm glitch allows the user to efficiently date skip. Date skipping allows you to force daily events in game to refresh, which enables actions such as watt farming, den re-rolling etc. Without the glitch active, nothing happens when you move the day forward in Pokemon Sword/Shield.
Activating the Y-Comm glitch¶
Video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZTB1ZGZu18
There are two variations to activating this glitch:
- Online: You must have Nintendo Switch Online and an internet connection.
- Local-only: You must have Pokemon Sword/Shield running on two separate Switches. But no internet required.
Steps:
- Go to a secure indoor location in game like a Pokécenter and save your game. This isn't strictly necessary, but it's safer so you don't get attacked by wild Pokemon, while you try to activate this glitch.
- Undock the Switch so that it's in hand-held mode. This allows you to toggle Airplane Mode.
- Click the 'Y' button to open Y-Comm.
- For the Online method: Click the '+' button to connect to the Internet.
- Select 'Link Battle'. Then click 'Single Battle'. Do not set a Link Code.
- Press A to clear the text boxes. The game then backs you out of Y-Comm menu, back to the Overworld.
- For the Local method: Ensure your second Switch also does the above steps to search for a Single Battle.
- While the game searches for an opponent, hold the Home Button to access quick settings. Then hover over Airplane Mode.
- Once you see text announcing that "an opposing Trainer has been found", toggle airplane mode on and off again to disconnect from the internet. When you do this, you will see an error message.
- NOTE For the Online method: Depending on when you try to activate this glitch, there may not be very many users online to battle. So, it can take several minutes to find an opponent. You just need to be patient. If you never find an opponent, ensure you are connected to the Internet in the Y-Comm menu.
- Hide the Quick Settings and close the error message.
- The Y-Comm glitch is now active. To confirm, click the home button to return to the Switch Home menu, then re-enter the game. If the screen "blinks", the glitch was done correctly.
NOTE: Once the glitch is active, entering a den with airplane mode on will kill the Y-COMM glitch. So Airplane mode can be optionally turned on for Dayskipper programs. But Airplane mode must be turned off for Watt farmer.
To activate the Y-Comm glitch when docked¶
As mentioned above, Airplane mode cannot be toggled when the Switch is docked. Try the following methods to disconnect from the other player, while in docked mode:
Option 1: When the opponent is found, select your user icon at the top of the Home menu. Click 'Add Friend', then 'Search for Local Users'. When you get the pop-up warning that "you will be disconnected from the current internet connection", click "OK". You should now be disconnected, and the Y-Comm glitch should be active.
- To automate this disconnect routine, try the Friend Search Disconnect program.
Option 2: When the opponent is found, enter the "Album" from the Switch Home menu. Select one of your photos. Click the 'A' button for "Sharing and Editing". Click "Send to Smartphone". When you get the pop-up warning that "you will be disconnected from the current internet connection", click "OK". Click "Only This One". You should now be disconnected, and the Y-Comm glitch should be active.
VS Glitch¶
This is a variation of the Y-Comm glitch. Instead of starting a battle via Y-Comm, you start it via VS/Battle Stadium. You then toggle Airplane mode to disconnect from the match.
The end result is the same as the Y-Comm glitch
Raid Invite glitch¶
This is another method that allows you to date skip.
To activate this:
- enter a Raid den and select the option to Invite others.
- Perform the date skip.
- Re-enter the game.
- Exit the den.
This method can be activated locally, without an internet connection, and doesn't require a second Switch. However, the date skips are much slower with this method, compared with the Y-Comm glitch.
